The Program 15 staff offers decades of experience at both the collegiate and professional levels. Evaluators and instructors have played, coached, and scouted at the highest levels of baseball and have been directly involved in players moving forward collegiately, professionally, and on to the Major Leagues.
All evaluations are performed with the goal of improving the player’s self-awareness and ability to maximize his abilities and achieve his goals. While college scholarships and professional careers cannot be guaranteed, our system has helped many players across the country accomplish these feats. Additionally, the Program 15 staff has developed a strong network across all levels that, if applicable, can be accessed to help local players.

A native of Buffalo Grove, IL, Nelson started at Buffalo Grove High School where he was an All-Area player and the Mid-Suburban League East Player of the Year in 1999. The numbers he put up as a senior at BGHS earned him a scholarship to play NCAA Division I baseball at the University of Illinois @ Chicago. While at UIC Nelson was twice named to the All-Horizon League Team and was a four year starter for the Flames.
The versatility Gord showed as a college player allowed him to sign a professional contract with the Schaumburg Flyers in June 2004. Nelson found himself playing all over the field in his 3 years as a Flyer and earned a spot on the 2006 Northern League All-Star team after setting career highs in hits, stolen bases (27), and set an all-time Northern League record by being hit by 28 pitches.
After the 2006 season Gord signed a contract with the Houston Astros and went to spring training with the club in 2007 as a catcher. He then finished the season with the Kansas City T-Bones where he set career highs in 2Bs, HRs and RBIs. On September 2, 2007 Gord was honored and played all 9 positions in a 9-inning game. He also went 2 for 3 in the game, capping off what was to many a mediocre career, but to him a "dream come true".
Nelson's coaching career followed a successful playing career which, began at Play Ball USA in Des Plaines, IL in 2004, and would go on to purchase the facility from previous ownership in 2008. During that time he would go on to form the Illinois Indians in October 2007. After recognizing a demand in the area for a professionally coached organization that stressed player development, he jumped at the opportunity to launch three teams (11U, 12U, 13U) that winter. The Illinois Indians have sent over 200 players on to college baseball, and Nelson has worked with over 1000 players who have moved on to the next level, including 24 players from the 2016 MLB Draft. He has coached at every level of amateur baseball including three years in the college ranks (Harper/2005 & Oakton/2009-2010). The organization has since grown and currently has 14 teams ranging from the youth program, through the high school years, and two collegiate summer league teams. He currently holds the position as head baseball coach at Notre Dame College Prep in Niles, IL.
Nelson also works as an Educational Speaker at NCSA Athletic Recruiting, which helps connects thousands of student athletes across the country to the college recruiting process and helping them land at the right college for academics and athletics. With Nelson's experience, recruiting expertise, and networking, he brings so much value to Program15 and the Future Stars Series.
